Explosive belt, targeted 18th arrondissement and renunciation … Salah Abdeslam must explain his role on the evening of the attacks

12:00 p.m.: The thesis of renunciation or a defective belt

In March 2016, after his muscular arrest in Belgium, the last survivor of the November 13 commandos claimed to have “given up” to activate his explosive belt. He had explained that he had to blow himself up at the Stade de France but that he had changed his mind when he arrived near the sports enclosure. He had then abandoned his car in the 18th arrondissement then his belt in the south of Paris. This thesis has never convinced the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT), in particular because an attack in the 18th district did appear in the press release of the terrorist organization but also because the expert opinions carried out on the belt within the framework of the investigation showed that it was defective. Finally, Salah Abdeslam had confided to relatives that she had not walked the evening of the attacks.
