Exhibition “Forbidden Books” in the Literaturhaus – Munich

What unites works by Frank Wedekind, Margaret Atwood and Salman Rushdie? An exhibition in the Literaturhaus shows how unpopular works were censored and destroyed by state or religious watchdogs worldwide – until today.

A poet’s job? “To name the unnameable, to expose fraud, to take a stand, to start arguments, to shape the world and to keep it from falling asleep,” writes Salman Rushdie. “And if rivers of blood flow from the wounds that his verses tear, they will nourish him.”
