Former US film producer Weinstein has been convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault. The jury found him not guilty of the second woman’s allegations, but found him innocent on other counts.

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of rape in a Los Angeles trial. The twelve jurors, eight men and four women, came to this conclusion after nine days of deliberations in the second criminal trial against the former film mogul in the context of the #MeToo revelations. He faces up to 24 years in prison.

Weinstein has already served two years of a total of 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in a New York trial.

No guilty verdict in several other cases

The 70-year-old was found guilty on Monday of rape, forced oral sex and another count of sexual misconduct – at the expense of a plaintiff known as “Jane Doe 1”.

However, the jury failed to reach a decision on several counts. This was particularly true of the allegations against Weinstein made by Jennifer Siebel, wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Weinstein was not found guilty on those counts or on the allegations by another woman.

Various women with similar allegations

Documentary filmmaker Siebel tearfully described how Weinstein raped her in a hotel room in 2005. An Italian model testified that Weinstein showed up uninvited to her hotel room during a 2013 film festival and raped her.

Lauren Young, the sole accuser who testified against Weinstein at both trials, said she was a model pursuing a career as an actress and screenwriter when the film mogul groped and masturbated in front of her in a hotel bathroom in 2013.

The jury failed to reach a consensus on Young’s allegations. A massage therapist reported he did the same thing to her after a massage in 2010.
