Bayern wanted to bring super talent Pedri – and therefore contacted Barca two days after the historic 8-2 in the Champions League.

Ramon Planes, former sporting director of FC Barcelona from Bayern’s former interest in top talent Pedri amazed. “I was surprised that Bayern had a serious and formal interest in Pedri without hardly having seen him. It’s clear proof that they are doing a really good job in their scouting department,” said the Spaniard in an interview Radio Marca.

Point of time, to which Munich contacted the Catalans in the summer of 2020, was even a curious one, as Planes now revealed: “They informed us of their interest two days after the 8-2 win in Lisbon. We told them that there was no chance.” With said 8: 2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the Munich Barca brought one of the worst bankruptcies in the recent past.

FC Barcelona: Pedri is under contract until 2026

Xavi, current Blaugrana coach, has already sung the praises of Pedri. The Barca legend sees the 19-year-old midfielder as the best player at his position. Ramon Planes feels the same way.

“I agree. Xavi and Iniesta were top players but Pedri’s achievements are incredible for his age and he has a huge future ahead of him. His footballing intelligence is very few players,” Planes pointed out.

Pedri has a contract valid until 2026 after an extension last autumn with the Catalans. In the current season, the 19-year-old only has eleven competitive games, as various injuries threw him back. Most recently, however, he drew attention to himself with a dream goal in the 4-1 away win in Valencia.
