Everyone invokes freedom, even their opponents do so. – Opinion

Everyone must be free to choose whether or not to be vaccinated. Those who do not get vaccinated have to live with the consequences.

It sounded pithy as usual: “No freedom without vaccination.” This is how Markus Söder spoke these days. That was more than just a tip against his Rhenish rival Armin Laschet and his “Ett still have joht jejange” attitude on corona issues. Of course, in a democracy it is not the case that the government grants its citizens freedoms. They are of course entitled to them as fundamental rights. The state can only restrict freedom if it is absolutely necessary, in the event of a disaster or to combat a dangerous epidemic. However, if many citizens do not have the reason, for example because they have had themselves vaccinated, the democratic constitutional state has no choice but to withdraw the restrictions.
