Event arena at the airport – traffic collapse in tow – Freising

Of course, the idea seems tempting at first. Maybe even Adele, or Elton John, maybe even Helene Fischer. The city of Freising could then bask in the glitz and glamor of the stars who appear in the new event arena at the airport right on their doorstep. That would finally be something nice that the state capital would leave to the region, so to speak, to compensate for the burdens it has to bear due to the construction of the airport. Then why isn’t everyone happy about it? It has nothing to do with ingratitude.

The response to the planned major project was very different from the start and it still is. Some see this as an opportunity for the region and the city of Freising, where the desire for a congress center is repeated again and again. The others see above all negative effects on the already polluted airport area. Both the Green City Councilor Susanne Günther and the Freising VCD district chairman Alfred Schreiber are right with the following view: Anyone who takes the climate crisis really seriously cannot approve this major project. Climate protection, sustainability and the mobility transition – those were the big issues in the federal election campaign. The youth, who have taken to the streets again and again, have been promised: “We heard you, we’re doing something now.” And now you want to push through a project that runs exactly against that?

350,000 more cars a year and an eight percent increase in flights. This is what the Freising Green City Councilor Susanne Günther says in the traffic report for the major project. That is more than this region can cope with in constant traffic jams.
