evacuations for a vast demining operation in Loire-Atlantique

It will be better to avoid the area until Thursday inclusive. From this Monday, a vast security operation is being carried out on the town of Batz-sur-mer (Loire Atlantique). Objective: “to verify all the anomalies detected and if necessary neutralize any explosives that will be found”, details the seaside resort on its website. A large security perimeter will be established, including the coastal path,
Manérick bay and about fifteen homes which will therefore have to be evacuated from their inhabitants for one or two days. They will be greeted in the village hall.

Early September, several explosive devices, a shell and ammunition, had been discovered under the sand. A team of demining divers from the French Navy intervened but new “magnetic anomalies” were identified a few weeks later, requiring this new large-scale intervention.

The roadblocks lifted every evening

“Access within the security perimeter will be completely prohibited throughout the duration of the operation, including for nautical activities. The roadblocks will be put in place from 8 am to 5 pm and will be lifted every evening ”, specifies the town hall. The bay of Manérick and the coastal path will again be accessible to the public at the end of this demining.
