All 37 participants in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 have now been determined. At the weekend, the former ESC winner Loreen prevailed in Sweden and is now representing her country again.

Two months before the event, all 37 participants in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023 have now been determined. Most recently, the finale of the popular Melodifestivalen in Sweden and the preliminary round in Portugal were still pending. The interpreters for Georgia and Armenia have already been decided, and the songs are to be released in March. For Germany, the Hamburg rock band Lord Of The Lost should get a good placement with “Blood & Glitter” – unlike in previous years, when “Germany” usually ended up far behind or even at the bottom.

Loreen will compete again for Sweden, as determined on Saturday evening in the sixth Melodifestivalen TV show. The ESC winner of 2012 (“Euphoria”) triumphed late on Saturday evening in the final of the Swedish preliminary round, which also has fans in other countries. Experts and betting shops see Loreen as the big favorite for the international final with her song “Tattoo”. In Portugal, the song “Ai coração” by singer Mimicat (Marisa Isabel Lopes Mena) was selected as a contribution.

Preparations for the 67th edition of the international music competition in Liverpool in mid-May are already in full swing.

Germany is automatically seeded for the final

Due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Great Britain is the second-placed country this time to host the ESC. The BBC is working with Ukraine on this. The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won the ESC in 2022 in Turin with the title “Stefania”.

The 2023 ESC semifinals are scheduled for May 9th and 11th, with Switzerland in the first and Austria in the second. The female duo Teya & Salena (“Who the hell is Edgar?”) will sing for Austria and the singer Remo Forrer (“Watergun”) for Switzerland.

Germany, as one of the big sponsors, is automatically set for the final on May 13 – as are France, Spain, Great Britain, Italy and last year’s winner country. Germany is allowed to vote alongside the participating semi-final countries and alongside France and Italy in the first semi-final.

From 2023, the jury will be abolished in the ESC semi-final shows. Only the televoting should decide which acts will move into the final – ten from the first and ten from the second semi-final.
