“They are all Germans. They are all our boys”: Scholz, Söder and Co. swear allegiance to the European Championship

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has commented on the opening match of the European Football Championship between Germany and Scotland. Markus Söder, meanwhile, gives his match tip.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is counting on a successful and diverse European Football Championship in Germany. “The Chancellor is looking forward to a colorful sea of flags. From his point of view, the more colorful, the better,” said deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner on Friday in Berlin.
“In addition to black, red and gold, he is also looking forward to many other colours and flags of the tournament teams.” Germany warmly welcomes Europe and all football fans and hopes for “a celebration of solidarity,” said Büchner.
Scholz is also keeping his fingers crossed for the German team and national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the opening match against Scotland and is hoping for a good start to the tournament from a German perspective. The Chancellor wants to be in the stadium for the DFB team’s last group match against Switzerland on June 23 in Frankfurt am Main, Büchner announced.
The federal government hopes for a football festival and wonderful weeks for the citizens who cheer for the German team – in the stadium, in fan zones, at home, with family, friends or in the favorite pub around the corner.
Political celebrities post about the European Football Championship
In keeping with this, Olaf Scholz posted a collage of German footballers on Instagram and captioned it with the words “They are all Germans. They are all our boys.”
Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder also had a similar idea. Adorned with black, red and gold fan paraphernalia, he also posted a clip on Instagram with the words in gentle Franconian: “Today is the day. And today we win. Germany beats Scotland. And here’s to a great European Championship.”
NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst had already produced a European Championship clip in which he appeared with the European Championship mascot “Albärt” and posted it on the online network Instagram. His question at the end of the video: “Who do you think will win the trophy?”
