Attention football fans: Today, Tuesday, only two matches of the European Football Championship will be shown on TV instead of three. This is the reason.

3 p.m., 6 p.m., 9 p.m. After only a few days of the European Championship, most Football fans are used to this rhythm. But beware! Anyone who turns on the TV at 3 p.m. out of habit will be disappointed. For the first time since Saturday, there are not three, but “only” two matches on the program at the European Championships today (18 June). Group F is the last group to take part in the action.

These two European Championship games will be broadcast on TV on Tuesday

Today’s matchday will not kick off until 6 p.m. In Dortmund, Turkey will play against European Championship debutants Georgia. RTL will show the match live on free TV at 6 p.m., but the broadcast will start at 5 p.m. Turkey-Georgia can also be seen on Magenta TV, where all 51 matches of this European Championship will be shown.

At 9 p.m., ARD takes over. Das Erste shows Portugal against the Czech Republic. The broadcast starts at 8:15 p.m. from Leipzig.

The match between Portugal and the Czech Republic could make history. If Cristiano Ronaldo (39) plays for Portugal as expected, he would be the first footballer ever to play in six European Championships.

That’s why there are only two games

UEFA has not communicated an official reason for programming the games on Tuesday. However, it is assumed that those responsible want to make the first matchday of the group phase complete. All 24 teams will then have played once. A third game on Tuesday would overlap into the second matchday.

Since only the opening match between Germany and Scotland kicked off on Friday (June 14) at the start of the tournament, the overall calculation with the two Tuesday games works out. UEFA had already handled this in this way at the last European Championship in 2021 and used the first Tuesday of the tournament as a balancing match day.

There are three matches scheduled again from Wednesday. This includes the German team’s second group match against Hungary (6 p.m.).
