The scene caused consternation. Hungary’s striker Varga collided with the Scottish goalkeeper at the European Championships. The 29-year-old had to undergo surgery – but will probably be able to leave the hospital soon.

After his heavy collision with the Scottish goalkeeper, Hungary’s striker Barnabas Varga will be operated on. The football professional will then remain in hospital for two more days, as was announced at a press conference in the EM team headquarters in Weiler-Simmerberg. If everything goes according to plan, Varga could be discharged on Wednesday, it was said.

The 29-year-old striker from Ferencvaros Budapest hit the upper arm of Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn with his head after a free kick in the penalty area when his team scored 1-0. According to reports, Varga suffered a concussion, several broken bones in his face and also lost consciousness. He regained consciousness when he was taken to an ambulance that took him to a hospital in Stuttgart. The European Championship is over prematurely for him.
