During the European Championship match between Serbia and Denmark, the police have identified numerous violations. Ten people, including nine officers and a steward, were slightly injured on Tuesday evening, the police said. Several people have been reported for breach of the peace, grievous bodily harm and assault on police officers, among other things. Seven people have been provisionally arrested. They will be brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday.
Nine officers were slightly injured during a check of Serbian fans. According to reports, the police checked a Serbian fan at Marienplatz for using pyrotechnics. According to reports, more than 5,000 Serbian fans had gathered there at around 5 p.m.
During the check, “solidarity effects” occurred: people threw bottles and a chair at the police. The officers reportedly used batons and pepper spray. A police spokesman was initially unable to say on Wednesday morning whether Serbian fans were also injured. A video from Marienplatz shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows fans waving a Russian flag and chanting praise for Russian head of state Putin.
Fans also set off pyrotechnics without permission at the Marienplatz subway station. Pyrotechnics were also used in the stadium several times. When a fan tried to run onto the field during the game, police said, stewards stopped him. One of the stewards was slightly injured. According to the police, there were around 15,000 visitors in the fan zone in the Olympic Park before and during the European Championship game. The Munich police were deployed with around 2,000 officers at times. Before the game, thousands of Denmark fans marched through Munich’s city center around midday. According to the police, pyrotechnics were also used in two cases.
