Spain is the team to beat at this European Championship. That has been clear since their impressive victory against Italy.

After the football gala against defending champion Italy, Spain’s national coach Luis de la Fuente still sees room for improvement in his team.

“We can definitely continue to improve. I don’t know where the limits are,” said de la Fuente, issuing a challenge to title rivals France, England and Germany. “All of the players have incredible potential that they have not yet fully exploited,” said the Spanish coach after the well-deserved 1-0 (0-0) win against Italy in Gelsenkirchen.

The Spanish dominated the Italians almost at will for 90 minutes. “That was probably the best game under my direction,” said de la Fuente. “Italy finished so weakly because we were so good,” said the Spaniard.

Winger Nico Williams played a major role in Spain’s victory. With his speed, he created dangerous situations almost every minute and was deservedly named player of the match. “I always dreamed of playing such a role at a European Championship,” said Williams. “My teammates applauded me in the dressing room, which made me very happy.”
