The superstar was taken to the Düsseldorf University Hospital. There, a decision will be made whether his nose will be operated on.
National coach Didier Deschamps was not too optimistic after the 1-0 win against Austria in Düsseldorf: “He is not feeling well at all. He is now at the doctors. I can’t say anything more about it. But it is complicated.” Deschamps later said: “We didn’t lose any feathers, but we did lose a nose.”
Mbappé sustained the injury shortly before the end of the match in a tackle when he hit Kevin Danso’s shoulder with full force with his nose during an attempted header. A scene ensued after that.

In the 85th minute, coach Didier Deschamps was furious on the sidelines. Although his captain was standing next to him with a bleeding nose, he was not allowed to make any substitutions in the final phase against Austria. Then Kylian Mbappé took matters into his own hands.
Mbappé went for a header after a free kick and crashed into Kevin Danso’s shoulder in a challenge. Mbappé remained dazed on the pitch, his nose bleeding. After a short treatment, it was clear that he had to be substituted.

Deschamps brought on veteran Giroud for Mbappé, who was being treated on the bench.
The striker disappeared into the catacombs immediately after the final whistle. “I thought my team was solid today. They lacked a bit of precision. But starting with a win is something you can get used to. We’ll have to see how Mbappé is doing. That’s the dark spot of the evening,” said Deschamps.
