Ukraine wants to join the EU and has been a candidate for membership since last summer. But the country does not yet meet the conditions. Ukraine still has a long way to go before that happens.
Ukraine has been a candidate for EU membership since June 2022. On Thursday morning, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and 15 other Commissioners arrived in Kyiv for talks with the Ukrainian government. “We are here together to show that the EU is as committed to Ukraine as ever,” von der Leyen wrote on Twitter. A photo showed her after arriving on the night train.
