After the Shapella upgrade was enabled earlier this month — developers are now working on the next upgrade called “Cancun-Deneb,” which is expected later this year.
and to make it clear The execution layer upgrade is called Cancun, the consensus layer upgrade is called Deneb — so together they are named Cancun-Deneb.
The most important changes predicted in Ethereum’s Cancun-Deneb upgrade later this year are: Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 4844 also known as “proto-danksharding”, EIP-4844 attempts to increase Ethereum’s scalability beyond the current capabilities of Layer 2 solutions.
And, if EIP-4844 is successfully enabled, it is expected to reduce transaction costs on Layer 2 rollup solutions, including Optimism and Arbitrum, compared to current rates.
The developer also announced that a fifth multi-client devnet will be released next week to test EIP 4844. Christine Kim, vice president of research at Galaxy Digital, attended the developer conference. In particular, the EIP-4844 has been tested on four other devnets so far.
