Another arrest because of the espionage case at the BND: An alleged accomplice of the suspected secret service employee is in custody. He is said to have brought information to Russia.

After the arrest of an employee of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) for espionage for Russia, an alleged accomplice is now also in custody. According to the Attorney General in Karlsruhe, the man is suspected of having brought the secret information spied on by the BND employee to Russia and handed it over to a secret service there.

Arthur E. was arrested when he entered Germany from the USA on suspicion of treason, the Karlsruhe investigators said.

Alleged accomplice not a BND employee

The arrested person is therefore a German citizen and not a BND employee. The investigations would be carried out in close cooperation with the German foreign intelligence service and the US Federal Police FBI.

In December, a BND employee was arrested for alleged espionage for Russia. According to the Attorney General, Carsten L. is accused of treason. He, too, is said to have transmitted information that was state secrets to a Russian intelligence service.
