In the preliminary decision “Germany 12 Points” it will be decided today who Germany will win in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin represents. Barbara Schöneberger will moderate the live show from Berlin from 9 p.m. as guests ConchitaThomas Hermanns, Bülent Ceylan and Jane Comerford.
Another star guest on the show is the Ukrainian singer Jamala, who due to the Events in their homeland fled from Kyiv. She enters the preliminary round with her ESC winner title “1944” on.
Solidarity with Ukraine: “We help – together for Ukraine”
Before “Germany 12 Points” begins, ARD sends a signal of solidarity with the people in and from Ukraine. At 8:15 p.m., the first broadcasts the special “We help – together for Ukraine”, which runs simultaneously on many ARD channels. We also broadcast the show live.
Afterwards – at 9 p.m. – the German ESC preliminary round begins. The show also runs live on the first, as well as in all third programs of the ARD, on ONE and in the live stream on eurovision.de and the ESC Germany TikTok channel. The show ends around 10:30 p.m. We will then broadcast the press conference with the winning act via live stream.

Voting via online and televoting
After juries decided in 2020 and 2021 who will take part in the ESC with which song, the fans are now voting again: 50 percent via online voting and 50 percent by calling or texting during the show. Voting for candidates has been online since February 28th. You can vote for the six acts on the websites of the nine ARD popwaves involved in the selection process until 8 p.m. tonight.
Starting places have been drawn
Alina Stiegler and Peter Großmann drew a draw on February 23 in the first part of the show “Live nach Neun” to determine who will start from which starting position in the preliminary round.
Tickets for the preliminary round
Due to the Corona measures, it was not clear for a long time whether the audience could be admitted to the studio in Berlin during the preliminary decision. A limited number of tickets were sold through the site tvtickets.de will be acquired. These were sold out after a short time.
Search for the German ESC act 2022
Singers and bands could apply online with a song until November 30, 2021. It was not possible to apply solely as a performer without a song of your own. “It is important that we are looking for artists and songs this year, i.e. a complete package,” explained delegation leader Alexandra Wolfslast in the ESC update podcast. Composers could also apply with a song, but only with an act. As always, according to the rules of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the song could not have been published for more than three minutes and not before September 1, 2021.
ARD radio pop waves part of the selection process
For the first time, the ARD radio pop waves were an integral part of the selection process in advance. These are Antenne Brandenburg, BAYERN 3, Bremen Vier, hr3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR3 and WDR 2. Die The jury consists of music experts from these radio programs and Alexandra Wolfslast, head of the German ESC delegation. It was her job as the ESC expert jury to select those who would be in the preliminary round from among all the applicants and bands. A total of 944 applications from music acts and their songs were received.
