Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wants to award more women with the Federal Cross of Merit. Steinmeier said it was “important that the impressive voluntary and political commitment of women also becomes more visible when the Order of Merit is awarded,” said a spokesman for the Federal President Süddeutsche Zeitung. Steinmeier “therefore asked all those entitled to make proposals to consider a proportion of women of at least 40 percent in their proposals”. These are submitted to the Federal President by the state chancellery of the federal states, among others.
