Eon boss Birnbaum: “The subject of coal is just taking care of itself” – economy

Interview by

Caspar Busse and Benedikt Müller-Arnold

Leonhard Birnbaum, 54, is also feeling the consequences of climate change privately. The boss of Eon, one of the largest energy suppliers and network operators in Europe, is an avid ice climber. But in order to find suitable ice walls, such as frozen waterfalls, he now has to drive further and further into narrow and dark Alpine valleys in winter. Born in Ludwigshafen, who has been CEO since April, is reluctant to walk on thin ice. He prefers the thick ice sheets where the pimple grips well.
