The US will allow travelers vaccinated against the corona virus back into the country from November 8th. As the White House explained, a negative corona test is necessary in addition to a vaccination certificate.
Those vaccinated against Corona can re-enter the USA from November 8th. This was confirmed by a White House spokesman on Twitter. The regulation applies to air travelers and those who enter the USA by land.
Entry ban due to Corona has been in effect since March 2020
In March of last year, the USA imposed entry bans for Europeans, among others, because of the corona pandemic. A month ago, the US government announced that the so-called travel ban would be lifted “at the beginning of November” for vaccinated travelers, but a specific date was not given.
Nevertheless, the number of bookings for flights to the USA skyrocketed at Lufthansa and Condor. In response to the news, Lufthansa shares increased their price gains.
Travelers need a vaccination certificate and negative test
In the future, travelers will have to show a negative corona test in addition to a vaccination certificate before their departure to the USA. The current regulations prohibit entry for those who have been in the Schengen area, Ireland or the UK in the 14 days before. Entry bans also apply to China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Iran.
So far, US citizens, people with a permanent residence permit – the so-called green card – and holders of certain visas with a special permit have not been affected by the “Travel Ban”.
In particular, the entry ban for Europeans has recently caused increasing criticism – especially since the EU lifted corresponding entry restrictions for US citizens in June and many EU countries are better off than the USA in terms of vaccinations and infection rates. Criticism of the entry ban came from travel and business associations, but also from numerous families or separated couples who could not see each other for months.
