They are symbolic steps: In France, the lights on some public buildings go out earlier than usual.

In view of the energy shortage, the lights at the famous pyramid in front of the Louvre in Paris and at the Palace of Versailles will go out earlier in the evening. As France’s Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak told the France 2 broadcaster on Saturday, the lighting on the glass pyramid of the Louvre will go out at 11 p.m. in the evening instead of the usual 1 a.m.

From next week, the façade of the magnificent palace of Versailles, not far from Paris, will only be illuminated until 10 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.

The city of Paris had previously announced that the lights on the Eiffel Tower and other buildings would soon be switched off earlier. According to Abdul Malak, more needs to be done. “These symbolic steps are not enough. They are important to mobilize citizens. But it is important to work concretely on how we can act in our museums, our theaters, our cinemas and all French cultural sites for the ecological transition.”
