Energy policy: is Germany building too many LNG terminals? – Politics

The criticism of the plans for the new liquid gas terminals in northern Germany is getting louder. A study by the Cologne think tank NewClimate Institute notes that the new infrastructure is “massively oversized”. If all eleven terminals were built as planned, about 50 percent more natural gas could be imported than flowed from Russia to Germany before the outbreak of the Ukraine war. There was a risk of bad investments, and since eight of the eleven terminals are supported with federal funds, this would ultimately affect the taxpayers.
