Employees – Many sick leave – Economy

Colds, flu and bronchitis: Due to the exceptionally strong increase in respiratory diseases, the number of sick leave among the 5.5 million policyholders of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) rose to a record value last year. With an average of around 19 days of absence, every employed person insured with TK was on sick leave for longer than ever, as the health insurance company announced. For comparison: in 2021 the average value was 14.53 absent days. The previous maximum value since the beginning of the evaluation was 15.51 absent days in 2018. “After a significant drop in sick leave in the first two years of the corona virus due to distance and hygiene rules, we observed a record value for last year,” said TK boss Jens Baas.
