GRANDSTAND – Academician Jean-Marie Rouart considers naive and very dangerous the decision of the French Head of State, announced in Algiers jointly with his Algerian counterpart, to create a mixed commission of historians to study the history of French colonization and the Algerian war.

It does not occur to anyone to question the great intelligence of President Macron. No more than denying him tremendous skill in his dizzying conquest of power. We can also grant him, since he is president, welcome initiatives on the national and international level. On the other hand, we remain dumbfounded in front of the naive conception that he expresses of History. And, what is more serious for a head of state, the link that exists between this story and major political decisions.

The last proof, certainly not the last, is its decision taken in Algiers to set up a mixed commission of historians and to open the archives to them (fifteen years before the legal date) which go from the beginning of colonization to the end of the Algerian war. That a member of the Nupes, that an agitated bowl like François Ruffin or the mayor of Grenoble, throws this pavement in the pond from the top of the hemicycle of the National Assembly, that is conceivable.
