An explosion in Solingen cost a man his life. According to police findings, he had dropped a bottle containing an as yet undetermined substance.

The investigation into the background of a Explosion in Solingen with one dead and four injured continues. “Why? What for? These are the questions that are now being asked in such a case,” said a spokesman for the Wuppertal police. “All the clues are being evaluated.” The criminal investigation department is being supported in its investigations by specialists from the State Criminal Police Office. In the evening, the police opened an online portal for witnesses’ information.

According to police, witnesses reported a loud bang and smoke in front of a residential and commercial building. The police assume that a man, whose identity has not yet been clearly established, dropped a bottle containing an unknown substance on the sidewalk. When the bottle shattered, an explosion occurred that shattered window panes.

The man was flown to a specialist hospital with serious injuries and died there a few hours later. Four people were slightly injured by broken glass or acoustic trauma and were treated in hospital. They were reportedly a seven-year-old girl, two women aged 35 and 45, and a 38-year-old man.

According to the dpa, the owner of a shop recognized the man as someone he had previously known for vandalism. He spoke to the man, who then dropped the bottle.
