Emelie de Jong appointed director after the resignation of Sandrine Treiner, accused of brutal methods

Arte program director Emelie de Jong was appointed director of radio France Culture on Tuesday, two months after the resignation of Sandrine Treiner, the public group Radio France announced. “She will take up her duties in the coming weeks. […] and will join the Radio France Management Committee,” the group said in a statement.

This 58-year-old woman with a very international profile (she has dual Dutch and American nationality) has spent most of her career with Arte, the Franco-German television channel. She has been its program director since January 2022, after having headed the Culture and entertainment and Arts and entertainment units since 2008.

Partnerships with major cultural players

As part of her duties, this graduate in literature, musicology and 20th century history has developed “events with major French and European cultural institutions”, underlines Radio France, citing the Louvre, the Center Pompidou, La Scala of Milan or the Salzburg Festival.

Weakened by accusations of brutal management, Sandrine Treiner announced her resignation from the post she had held since 2015 at the end of January. During these eight years, she has raised France Culture to record audience levels.
