The King is alive! Thanks to Elvis, a flamboyant biopic by Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann, the Cannes Film Festival vibrated to the sound of hits from the King of Rock. The director and Tom Hanks received their share of cheers before the screening but it was the young Austin Butler who got the most acclaim at the end, which is only fair as he is the film’s revelation in the title role. .
A magical evening
After the screening, the evening continued on Plage Stéphanie for a real Cannes party like we hadn’t seen in three years! In a setting as colorful as the film, the guests felt transported to a fantasy Las Vegas. Claude Lelouch, present at the party, told 20 minutes how he met Elvis Presley in 1969: “During the filming ofA man I like, Line Renaud took me to see the show and dine with him afterwards. It was the time when he was a bit strong,” he recalls.
The evening culminated with two very special events. A ballet of drones rising in the night above the sea to form the name of Elvis and his silhouette to the sound of his most beautiful songs dazzled guests and onlookers. A concert by the group Maneskin, winners of Eurovision in 2021, then raised the atmosphere a further notch. The proof that yes, it is not an urban legend: Elvis is not dead since he is still able to put the Croisette in a trance.
