Elton John used the time during the pandemic to record a new album. Then he combines the crème de la crème of the stars.

In addition to a weakness for unusual glasses, Elton John (74) has one thing above all else: his love of music. So it’s no wonder that he used the time during the corona pandemic for a new album. With “The Lockdown Sessions” he recorded a very special long player. The 74-year-old has brought numerous stars to his side.

More than 20 guests can be heard on the album. Elton John is extremely versatile and adapts to his respective duet partners. “They are all completely different from what everyone knows about me,” says the singer about the songs. “I really had to move completely out of my comfort zone for that.”

Due to the pandemic, some recording sessions could only take place digitally, others live under strict conditions. Working with the many different artists reminded John of his beginnings in the 1960s. At that time he was still working as a studio musician. “This came full circle: I was a session musician again. And I still had a lot of fun doing it,” explains the singer.

These stars are represented on the album

Elton John brought in younger singers such as Dua Lipa (26), Miley Cyrus (28), Nicki Minaj (38), Charlie Puth (29), Lil Nas X (22), Young Thug (30) and the band Years & Years around singer Olly Alexander (31) on board. But older stars like Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder (56), soul legend Stevie Wonder (71) and singer Stevie Nicks (73) can be heard on the album. Elton John thus unites more top-class performers than ever before on one of his long players. “I haven’t had so much fun making an album for years,” said the Briton in September on Instagram.

In the same post, the music legend also revealed that Charlie Puth became part of his family during the lockdown. The two have only known each other for around a year and a half. The common song “After All” was created during a songwriting session in Puth’s home studio. “I didn’t think this song would spark a series of enjoyable collaborations over the next few months. The end result is my new album, ‘The Lockdown Sessions’.” The record will be released on October 22nd.
