Elon Musk wants to reinstate Donald Trump on Twitter

It was an expected decision. Elon Musk said on Tuesday that if he took control of Twitter, he would lift the permanent suspension of Donald Trump’s account decided after the attack on Capitol Hill, saying it was a “morally wrong” decision and “senseless”.

“I think it was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and ultimately did not prevent Donald Trump from being heard” since he is now on his own social network, he underlined during of a conference organized by the FinancialTimes. The Tesla founder refers to the Truth Social platform, which the former president launched in February and touted as an alternative to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Risk of incitement to violence

Twitter had deleted Trump’s account on January 8, 2021, followed by nearly 89 million subscribers to whom he spoke daily, believing that there was a risk of incitement to violence.

Two days earlier, thousands of supporters of the Republican billionaire had violently attacked the Capitol in Washington to prevent elected officials from certifying the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the presidential election.
