He is extremely successful on Twitch, now Elias Nerlich aka “EliasN97” is also trying to be a football commentator. His first game on RTL+ is an international classic.
During the second leg of the Europa League playoff between Manchester United and FC Barcelona (exclusively live at 9 p.m. on RTL+) viewers can look forward to a new, fresh voice on the microphone. Elias Nerlich will commentate on the game at Old Trafford together with Robby Hunke in the “Gen Z Stream” – making his debut in this discipline.
The 25-year-old is better known as “EliasN97”. The most successful German-language content creator is active under this name on the Twitch streaming platform. There, 1.4 million people follow him when he broadcasts gaming sessions, for example. The streamer is looking forward to his commitment in the Europa League: “For me personally it is of course something special to be a commentator in such a top game,” he told RTL in advance.

The special challenge for Nerlich: “Normally I try to entertain my viewers as much as possible in my live streams. I have mostly control over the topics and events I talk about. This controllability falls with a live commentary away.” Spontaneity and flexibility are therefore required.
Authenticity is just as important to him, and Nerlich wants to stick to that in football: “That will not change in my role as a commentator. I will try to comment on the game in my own way in a relaxed and entertaining way.” On Thursday evening he expects “a pairing of equals”, but is still committed: “I think that Barca will go through in the end. They are currently in good form and are leaders in La Liga. With Gavi they also have an exceptional talent and one of my favorite players in their ranks.”

“EliasN97” has a close connection to football, both on screen and on the green field. Until 2021 he played “FIFA” professionally for the e-sports department of Hertha BSC – a passion that he discovered when he broke a fibula as a teenager and was no longer able to play football himself. Together with the former football professional Sidney Friede, Nerlich founded the amateur football club Delay Sports Berlin in 2021, which has been competing in the district league C (11th division) since this season.
