Electric cars on fire: fire brigade extinguishes Tesla fire in video

Watch the video: Electric cars on fire – firefighters show how difficult it is to tame a Tesla fire.

If the batteries of an electric car catch fire, they are difficult to extinguish. The fire department from Sacramento in the US state of California had to experience this again. Electromobility is currently considered the climate-friendly technology of the future in automotive engineering. However, if the batteries catch fire, they are difficult to extinguish. The fire department from Sacramento in the US state of California had to experience this again. The forces have published pictures of an operation. According to the fire department, the battery compartment of a Tesla Model S suddenly caught fire on the freeway. Nothing unusual had happened before. Video released by the fire department shows the burning car on the side of the road and firefighters pointing a hose at the flames. According to the fire department, the flames were extinguished with 22,000 liters of water. Photos show that responders had to jack the Tesla up to get to the underside of the vehicle and cool the battery. The problem: The batteries can catch fire again and again due to the residual heat. According to the fire department, no one was injured in the fire. The Sacramento Fire Department previously released a similar video showing a Tesla on fire in a junkyard. The car also caught fire, but all attempts to put it out were unsuccessful, and the battery kept catching fire. Laying the car on its side and cooling the battery directly didn’t help either. Eventually, firefighters dug a pit, filled it with water, and pushed the Tesla inside. The fire was only extinguished when the battery compartment was completely submerged in water. According to the fire brigade, another advantage of the process is that the contaminated water could be collected better. Tesla itself stipulates that in the event of a battery fire, an extinguished electric vehicle must be observed for at least one hour before it can be transported.
