Elbphilharmonie: Christoph Lieben-Seutter remains in charge of culture

The general director of the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Christoph Lieben-Seutter, will remain the artistic director of the two concert halls for another five years. His contract has now been prematurely extended by five years to 2029. Lieben-Seutter has been responsible for the program of the two Hamburg concert halls since 2007. With a view to extending his contract, the artistic director promised “to further sharpen the profile of the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle and to prepare both houses for the future”. He particularly emphasized the employees of the concert halls. “Being able to continue working with this committed team is my greatest pleasure.” Born in Vienna, Lieben-Seutter worked for many years as director of the Vienna Konzerthaus before his engagement in Hamburg. According to the cultural authorities, the concerts in the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle are attended by around 1.2 million people every year.
