After Braun had resigned from office for health reasons, he was appointed Honorary President. The Egidius Braun Foundation was also established.

Bernd Neuendorf (60), who was only elected the new DFB President on March 11, 2022, is quoted as saying: “Today is a sad day for all footballers in Germany and Europe. With Egidius Braun we are losing a special person who used the possibilities of football to help those who need support and attention.” Above all, the well-being of needy children and young people has always been important to Braun.

DFB general secretary Heike Ullrich states that they want to “suggest that there is a minute’s silence before all football matches in Germany next weekend”.

Entrepreneur Braun has been committed to charitable causes and against racism throughout his life – in and outside of football. Among other things, he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit with Star and Ribbon for his commitment.
