In 2023, Ed Sheeran was again the most played musician in the UK, while Taylor Swift had to settle for second place.

The singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran (33) has been named the most played artist of 2023 by the British music licensing company PPL. This is the seventh time in nine years and the third time in a row that the successful singer has been named the most played artist on radio, TV and in public places in the UK. It is also his second hat trick, having topped the list without interruption between 2017 and 2019.

Taylor Swift has to settle for second place

As can be seen from the ranking presented, US singer Taylor Swift (34) takes second place. Otherwise, British artists such as Dua Lipa (28, third place), Calvin Harris (40, fourth place), Elton John (77, sixth place), Tom Grennan (29, eighth place) and Harry Styles (30, ninth place) dominate the table.

In addition to these solo acts, Coldplay was the only band to make it into the PPL top ten, coming in seventh place. Other international artists besides Swift included French DJ David Guetta (56) and the legendary Madonna (65), who placed fifth and tenth respectively.

According to a statement, Ed Sheeran thanked everyone for his placement with routine politeness and commented: “Thank you for naming me the most played artist of the last year. Thank you to my team, not just for me but for all the other artists you work with – I’m delighted that you get this recognition.”
