Cabbage soup and kvass are about 19th century Russia – and a record-breaking sentence.

Never before have there been so many emails and so many different opinions about a bestseller: some searched through “Stay away from Gretchen” while reading it, others put it away halfway through. Jan and Katharina are also split: Good story, but too much cliché! Guest Clemens Meyer raves about a book in one sentence – which is, however, 480 pages long. And with the (delicious) cabbage soup you can immerse yourself in the work of Dostoyevsky, whose 200th birthday is being celebrated this year (naaaa, who remembers his big hits?) – the typical Russian drink kvass takes some getting used to.

Russian cabbage soup recipe:

ingredients

½ white cabbage

½ celery bulb

2 liters of vegetable stock

1 glass of porcini mushrooms

2 onions

2 cloves of garlic

2 carrots

5 large potatoes

3 bay leaves

dill

salt and pepper

Preparation:

Peel and chop the onions and garlic. Lightly sear in the pot. Peel and dice the potatoes, celery and carrots and place in a large stockpot. Then add the vegetable stock and cook on a low flame for about three hours. Cut the cabbage into small strips and sauté in a second saucepan until the strips are translucent. Then put the cabbage in the saucepan with the vegetable stock and cook for another 30 minutes. After 15 minutes add the mushrooms and spices. Season with salt and pepper and serve: приятного аппетита (Bon appetit)

I want to get you rolls right away, but don’t you want cabbage soup instead of the sausage? Very good cabbage soup, from yesterday. I set some aside for you yesterday, but you got home so late. Very good cabbage soup!
