East of Munich: SPD calls for tunnels for freight trains – Munich

Deutsche Bahn wants to modernize the rail network so that trains can run through Trudering and Bogenhausen at 100 km / h – and in greater numbers than initially assumed.

The parliamentary group of SPD and Volt in the city council calls for a rethinking of the railway expansion in the east of Munich. DB Netz AG wants to modernize the rail network there so that 740-meter-long freight trains can roll through Trudering and the Bogenhausen district at 100 km / h – and in large numbers. Deutsche Bahn itself assumes around 140 freight trains per day, but a study by the Brenner Corridor Platform (BCP) on the Brenner Base Tunnel coordinated between Germany, Austria and Italy calculates 256 trains.

In view of this significantly higher number, SPD / Volt are calling for a new approach. “The decision that freight traffic between northern Germany and Italy should flow via Munich was made by the former transport minister. We expect that to be revised,” explains transport policy spokesman Nikolaus Gradl. Otherwise, the residents would have to get at least the best possible noise and vibration protection. This means, on the one hand, a tunnel for the route between Daglfing and Johanneskirchen, which will be expanded from two to four tracks, and, on the other hand, an expansion variant developed by the residents themselves for two track curves in Trudering.
