The winner of season 19 “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” is 21-year-old Harry Laffontien. In the final, he clearly prevailed against his competitors – including his younger brother.

Circus artist Harry Laffontien won the RTL casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. He prevailed against his three remaining competitors in Saturday’s season 19 finale. Including his younger brother, Gianni Laffontien. “This is absolutely amazing! I feel like the greatest person on earth right now. I want to say thank you to everyone who called. It’s only because of you that I’m the new superstar! I really never expected it and will do everything, do whatever is in my power to give people lots of love and music back,” said the 21-year-old.

The voting results published by the broadcaster RTL show that Laffontien was able to assert himself confidently against second-placed Amber van den Elzen. He received 73.1 percent of viewer calls. The 20-year-old student accounted for 26.9 percent. Nevertheless, it was also a success story for van den Elzen: Like her older sister, she made it to the DSDS final. Laura van den Elzen took part in DSDS in 2016 and also came second.

Laffontien and van den Elzen competed against each other as top two, the other two finalists Melissa Mantzoukis and Gianni Laffontien had already been eliminated.

Harry Laffontien makes Florian Silbereisen cry

“Harry, you can actually sing what you want, it’s always good,” enthused the head of the jury, Florian Silbereisen, after the singer had performed his final song “Someone To You”. The title was produced by DSDS juror Toby Gad. “You made this song your own song, the way it should be, that was Harry, that was authentic!” Said guest judge Joachim Llambi.

The jury was impressed by Laffontien’s performance throughout the show. Among other things, the four finalists were asked to perform a song by their idol. The 21-year-old chose Simply Red’s “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” number. Silbereisen was so touched that he shed a few tears. “You are the first man who made me cry,” said the 40-year-old.

Ex-juror Dieter Bohlen caused a surprise right at the beginning of the finale: The 68-year-old sent a video message to the candidates, but also advertised on his own behalf to promote his new single with Pietro Lombardi.

With his victory at DSDS, Harry Laffontien, who lives with his family near Bielefeld, secured 100,000 euros and a record deal with Universal Music.
