Several prefectures have authorized the use of drones by the police in order to follow the May Day parades, they indicate in press releases. This will be the case in particular in Lyon, Bordeaux or Le Havre.

“Given the damage, the clashes with the internal security forces and the sabotage of the video surveillance cameras observed during certain recent national days of inter-union actions, the prefect of the Gironde has decided to reinforce the security of the course to guarantee the smooth running of this important event”justifies the prefecture of Gironde in a press release. “The capture of images is strictly supervised and secure and cannot, for example, target the interior of homes”she says.

Police officers and gendarmes are authorized, by the law of 24 January 2022 relating to criminal liability and internal security, to use drones with on-board cameras, in particular for the prevention of attacks on the security of persons and property and to the security of events.
