In order to improve air quality and comply with limit values, the city of Munich has no legal choice but to issue driving bans. Other metropolises, on the other hand, drive well with a toll.

The driving ban for old diesel cars in Munich’s extended environmental zone, which also includes the Mittlerer Ring from February, has led to many debates. There are numerous exceptions, for example for craftsmen and residents or for people who need their car to visit the doctor. Shortly before Christmas, the city council passed the driving ban, including other exceptions. For example, the Brudermühl bridge over the Isar will be excluded from the environmental zone, and exceptions for the Heckenstaller and Luise-Kiesselbach tunnels will also be examined. Motorhomes can also continue to drive via the Mittlerer Ring to the campsite in Thalkirchen.
