Above all, eggnog is one thing: not for everyone. And so that nobody has to look into an empty glass at Easter 2023, we present five cool eggnog alternatives. To give as a gift or to drink yourself.

Why does everyone only think about the egg at Easter? Colorful chocolate eggs, blown and painted decorative eggs, colored eggs for breakfast on Easter Sunday – and of course: eggnog. It is now available in many strange colors and lots of more or less seductive flavors. Rum, chocolate, whiskey – whatever tastes good is allowed. But what to do if eggnog doesn’t appeal to the palate at all? The creamy mix of egg yolks, sugar, cream and a hearty sip of Korn (or another spirit) isn’t for everyone. But there are alternatives. Five liquid treats between 10 and 35 turns for an enjoyable Easter 2023.

1. Zwönitz whiskey egg

Let’s start with a wild eggnog mix from the Ore Mountains. The master distillers from the Saxon mountain town of Zwönitz have christened their first own whiskey creation “Night Walker”. And introduced the single malt, which has matured in oak barrels for three years, to the local chickens. Of course only in a figurative sense. Because instead of using Korn, as is usually the case, they refine the eggnog base with a sip of their whiskey (47 percent by volume), which was first sold in 2019. Likeable: The people of Zwönitz bottle their special eggnog by hand. It is available as a glass bottle in two sizes (0.2 liters or 0.5 liters) and – suitable for Easter – as Trial version in a 4-egg carton. Good luck for!

2. Froh-Secco

With a creative masterpiece of word acrobatics, this carbonated cold drink has secured a place in the top 5 of our Easter drink tips. Happy Secco is a dry City-Secco bottled in a 200 milliliter (ml) can from the Peter Mertes winery on the Moselle. To ensure that the sparkling, sparkling sparkling wine reaches the right addressee, the can can be personalized with a desired name before ordering. Froh-Secco has an alcohol content of 10.5 percent by volume and should be drunk well chilled. Depending on your preference and how the kitchen is equipped, from a can or a champagne glass. Cheers!

3. Hoppel Poppel herbal liqueur

Herbal liqueurs are a dime a dozen. That’s right. But this one is special because of its slightly frivolous label and is therefore indispensable in our drink tips for Easter 2023. The Hoppel-Poppel, which the family distillery Max Gündel from Thuringia filled in this 0.7 liter bottle, not only tastes good, but especially at Easter. With 35 percent alcohol by volume, the Italian-style Altenburg herbs is in the middle. The same should also apply to the taste. Not too sweet and not too tart. Right in the middle. For the benefit!

4. Sweet & Spicy – Strawberry Chili/Mango Habanero Liqueur

Number four on our list is not for wimps. It is therefore better to wish the recipient a “Hot Easter”. The duet from the traditional Deheck distillery in Reinhessen consists of two small bottles (0.1 liters) that pack a punch. In one, a strawberry liqueur was refined with a touch of chili. The other combines the exoticism of a mango liqueur with the habanero, one of the hottest chillies in the world. The two extraordinary compositions bring it to 20 percent alcohol by volume. Who dares? Here’s the hottest Easter gift for 2023 in a set.

5. Hazelnut Schaps “Tippy Easter Bunny”

It comes from the “workshop of pure enjoyment”. “Tipped Easter Bunny” hopped. The liquor bunny was born in the deepest Allgäu. The fine content also comes from the distillery in Sulzberg. With 30 percent by volume, the hazelnut spirit burns off a proper firework display on the palate. For chocolate fans, the typical nutty-nougat-like note should sweeten Easter 2023 in particular. The nice thing about this high-proof Easter gift: the bottle is ideal as a decorative element. Because the next Easter will definitely come.
