Draw Europa League: Freiburg draws the big lot – sport

SC Freiburg meets Italian record champions Juventus Turin in the round of 16 of the Europa League. Union Berlin faces Union St. Giloise. The Berliners had to compete against the Belgians in the group phase. Bayer Leverkusen plays against Ferencvaros Budapest. That was the result of the draw of the European Football Union (Uefa) on Friday in Nyon.

“Juventus Turin is an amazing team, has an unbelievable history, lots of great players and a cool stadium – you always dream of playing against such teams,” said Freiburg’s Italian international Vincenzo Grifo: “Of course I’m also happy to be a player to see a few colleagues that I play with in the national team. We go there with a lot of euphoria.”

Turin finished only third in the group stage of the Champions League, behind Paris St. Germain and Benfica Lisbon. After the “relegation” to the Europa League, the old lady prevailed in the intermediate round against FC Nantes. In Serie A, coach Massimiliano Allegri’s side are only seventh after Juventus were deducted 15 points for accounting fraud.
