Union Berlin did not get beyond a draw in the home game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

With the 1: 1 (0: 1) against bottom of the table Fürth on Friday (April 29, 2022), Union could lose sixth place in the table to 1. FC Köln in the race for a place in a European competition, which could be behind fifth place Freiburg also increase. Fürth was already relegated before the game.

“It wasn’t underestimated, we just did it badly,” said Union captain Christopher Trimmel, “Then the opponent gets space and has it easy.” But he also takes something positive with the point.

Hrgota takes care of bringing up the rear

Fürth was deservedly in the lead at the break. Tobias Raschl hit the crossbar (18′) and Branimir Hrgota shot just wide (21′). When Union then failed to clear a free kick properly, Hrgotas hit the corner from ten meters from the left. Fürth remained the better team in the closing stages of the first half.

“We should have scored more goals,” said Hrgota. “We’ve shown more than once that we want to play like this – and we did it again today, even if we were relegated.”

Michel takes advantage of Fürth’s mistakes

Sven Michel equalized in the second half: Nick Viergever came under pressure when goalkeeper Andreas Linde passed the ball. Michel attacked Viergever, took the ball from him and heaved it into the empty box from a few meters (72′). However, Union no longer generated the great pressure.
