After moving up from the fourth to the second division, the next highlight is coming up for SSV Ulm. They will face FC Bayern in the DFB Cup. The defending champions, meanwhile, have to travel to Jena.

Second division promoted SSV Ulm has in the first round of the DFB Cup and will host record winners FC Bayern. This was the result of the draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Saturday.

“It will be a difficult task, but I think the team and the whole city will do everything they can to annoy Bayern a little bit,” said a club representative on ARD about the tough task at the competitive debut of the new Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.

Defending champions Bayer Leverkusen will face regional league team Carl Zeiss Jena in the first round. Like runners-up VfB Stuttgart, who will travel to second division promoted team Preußen Münster, the champions will not play until the end of August. The two Bundesliga teams will first play for the Supercup on Saturday of the cup weekend (16 to 19 August).

Champions League finalist Borussia Dortmund will face regional league team 1. FC Phoenix Lübeck in the first round. “I am speechless,” said Lübeck club chairman Thomas Laudi. “This is the crowning glory of a successful season.” Third division team Rot-Weiss Essen will host two-time cup winners RB Leipzig. Second division relegated team SV Wehen Wiesbaden will face the Rheinhessen derby against FSV Mainz 05.
