dr Dre sells most of his music capital. He has reportedly struck a deal worth more than $200 million.

dr Dre (57) is considered one of the most important hip-hop producers and artists – and also one of the most successful. Now the rapper and music producer is selling parts of his music capital. As reported by the “Billboard” magazine, among othersthe 57-year-old has entered into two deals worth more than $200 million with Universal Music Group and Shamrock Capital.

Assets bring in $10 million annually

Shamrock will buy between 75 and 90 percent of the assets, with Universal buying the remaining 10 to 25 percent. The assets primarily include passive income streams, such as royalties from two of his solo albums, as well as his share of group NWA royalties and producer royalties. Collectively, these assets should bring in around ten million US dollars in profit annually. So far there has been no official confirmation of the deals from Universal, Shamrock or Dr. Dr himself.

dr Dre, whose real name is André Romelle Young, rose to prominence in the 1980s as part of the gangsta rap group NWA and released his debut solo album The Chronic in 1992. Together with rapper Suge Knight (57), he founded the hip-hop label Death Row Entertainment in 1991, which signed the then unknown Snoop Dogg (51) and Tupac Shakur (1991-1996), among others. He is also credited with the success of hip-hop artists such as Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar.
