Report: Those responsible for Bucha massacre identified

After their defeat in the Battle of Kyiv, the Russians retreated in early April, leaving 460 dead in the small town of Bucha alone. US journalists identify several people responsible for the massacre. Some of them called relatives after the murders – with cell phones of their victims.

After months of research into the massacre in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, the New York Times has made serious allegations against a unit of the Russian army. The US newspaper released a 28-minute video with the background and the results of their investigations, according to which paratroopers from the 234th Airborne Division are said to be responsible for the deaths of dozens of civilians on Jablunska Street in Bucha.

According to Ukrainian sources, more than 460 bodies were found in the Kiev suburb of Bucha in April after the Russian military withdrew. The atrocities against the civilian population had caused horror around the world. Russia denies responsibility for the crimes and has said footage of the dead was fabricated.

“Soldiers have interrogated and executed unarmed men of military age, and they have killed people who inadvertently got in their way – whether they were children fleeing with their families, local residents looking for food, or people just trying to to ride their bikes home,” writes the “New York Times”, which also published a newspaper article on her research.

According to its own statements, the newspaper spent eight months talking to local residents, evaluating security camera footage and analyzing government documents that showed the responsibility of the Russian 234th Airborne Division for dozens of killings on Jablunska Street. Phone records also showed that victims’ phones were making calls to Russia, in some cases just hours after the victims died. By comparing data from social networks and conversations with relatives, it was possible to prove that the callers were soldiers from the Russian parachute division.
