Double murder defendant suffers heart attack during trial

The trial of Eric Galo, accused of killing two women on November 14, 2019 in Montauban, did not resume this Friday morning. The sexagenarian, whose trial opened on Tuesday before the Assize Court of Tarn-et-Garonne, underwent heart surgery, following a heart attack at the hearing Thursday morning.

It happened when Francis Szpiner, the lawyer for the civil parties, was asking him insistent questions.

For a rent debt

And the answers will therefore have to wait in this particularly sordid affair. The two victims, a 38-year-old woman, a tenant of Eric Gallo, and an 18-year-old young woman, were discovered dead in the Montauban pavilion. The first, lying on the ground floor, had a gunshot wound and multiple stab wounds. The second, found upstairs, was shot dead.

The accused, who lived “on the income of the twenty apartments and real estate he owned” in this city, had explained to the investigators “having come by car at night to claim the approximately 3,000 euros in unpaid rent by his tenant”, according to the information provided by the public prosecutor of Montauban at the end of the custody of the suspect. The tenant’s son, 17 at the time, was initially suspected.
