On Saturday, the daily press round of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Beijing organizers focused on snowfall in the mountains of Yanqing and Zhangjiakou – yes, the first real snow of these games had fallen. It was also about the excellent Peking duck in the canteen of the athletes’ village, “so that athletes can experience the taste of Chinese spring,” revealed Qianfan Shen, the general director of the OK for logistics – before answering a Chinese reporter’s inquiry about whether the Peking duck was popular with the athletes, enthusiastically agreed. You can see that from the 18 birds that had to be called up simultaneously in the canteen at times; and that the athletes proudly showed off the food on social media (unfortunately censored in China).
