Donald Trump Jr. wants to hit Ron DeSantis in his web video show. But instead of insulting the governor of Florida, he mentions his father’s name.
The fact that Donald Trump’s sons are happily involved in their father’s US election campaign is nothing new. But that they insult their own father in the process – albeit rather unintentionally. This is what happened in the new episode of the online show by Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former US President, on the video platform rumble. “Trump has the charisma of a mortician and an energy that makes Jeb Bush look like an Olympian,” Trump Jr. declared in his “Triggered with Don Jr.” format. – without noticing his mistake.
The Republican Bush was governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007 and was considered by the party establishment to be the presidential candidate for the 2016 elections – but ultimately Donald Trump became the candidate and later also President of the United States.
Donald Trump Jr. mocks DeSantis’ botched campaign
The 45-year-old starts with his tirade against Ron DeSantis, Donald Trump’s biggest competitor in the Republican election campaign. DeSantis had officially made his candidacy during the week, but was struggling with huge technical problems. A treat for Donald Trump and his sons, who never miss an opportunity to attack DeSantis. DeSantis made his announcement on Twitter because he “didn’t find enough people interested in making a public announcement,” Trump Jr. speculated at the beginning of the video.
The 45-year-old then happily shows the technical glitches of the transmission, which was only able to start more than half an hour late. And then there is the “nasal and effeminate voice” that he will not be able to get out of his head in the future. “The start of the catastrophe is a sign of what is to come: DeSantis will regret running for office,” explains Trump Jr. DeSantis wants to be seen as “Trump light”, but he is neither political nor personal Close to his father, Trump Jr. adds before he gets confused.
After a short break, the oldest Trump offspring follows up without correcting his slip of the tongue. “The politics of a DC swamp rat, we saw the flip flops right?” asked the 45-year-old. Since he didn’t correct himself, the term DC swamp rat in reference to his father caused amusement on the internet. With flip-flops, however, Trump Jr. alluded to DeSantis’ change of mind regarding the Ukraine conflict. He described the war between Russia and Ukraine as a “territorial conflict” and was criticized for this by both political camps. During the week, Florida’s governor said he meant the war was mostly in eastern Ukraine and Russia had no right to the area and a war with Ukraine.
DeSantis was reelected governor of Florida last November. His clear electoral success initially catapulted him to the top of the Republican presidential race. While he was still ahead of Donald Trump in polls in December, he is now far ahead of his biggest competitor. The lead of the former US President was between 25 and 35 percentage points.
With his ultra-right politics, DeSantis raised his profile among conservative Republicans. Schools have been banned from teaching about sex and gender identity, books on such topics have been banned from libraries, and abortions are now only allowed up to the sixth week of pregnancy – a time when many women still don’t know they are pregnant – and DeSantis lowered the bar to impose the death penalty.
