The Simpsons are known for having a good sense of the future. Now the makers of the series were right again: they predicted that Donald Trump would like to become US President in 2024.

Donald Trump wants to go back to the White House: The 76-year-old has announced that he wants to be nominated again by the Republican Party for the US Presidential election. That in itself wasn’t a surprise, many had been expecting Trump’s statement for weeks – but hardly anyone had had this event on their screens for as long as the “Simpsons”.

Because the Trump candidacy for the 2024 election appears in a seven-year-old YouTube clip from the series. In one scene, a campaign sign can be seen behind Homer Simpson that reads “Trump 2024.” “Simpsons” showrunner Al Jean therefore did not miss the opportunity to post this picture on Twitter. He wrote: “As predicted in 2015.”

The Simpsons predicted Donald Trump’s first term

It’s not the first time that the animated series has shown events that occur in (almost) exactly the same way years later. The makers had also foreseen Donald Trump’s first term in office – back in the year 2000.

In the episode, Bart Simpson looks to the future and sees Donald Trump being voted out of office in 2030 and his sister Lisa taking office. The “Simpsons” were only a few years wrong: Trump was elected in 2016.

That "Simpsons Oracle": Did the show really foresee the storming of the US Capitol?

In addition, topics such as the Greek financial crisis, the auto-correction function on smartphones and the Tiger attack on the magician Roy Horn came up early in various episodes – long before they became reality. There is even one Twitter accountwhich deals exclusively with the predictions of the Simpsons.

To have "The simpsons" Richard Branson's space trip predicted?

As far as Donald Trump’s second candidacy is concerned, the prophecy of the “Simpsons” makers has so far only partially come true. Trump has announced that he wants to run again, but he must first be nominated by the Republicans as a candidate and prevail against some competitors from his own party.
